Mail from our guests say it best:
When we opened our ranch to guests in early 2001, we knew we had unmatched natural habitat and game that would impress even the most discerning hunter. We knew that attracting hunters to the “Outback of America” required a best-in-class hunting experience. We are proud to say we achieved that goal, which has made the TTT Ranch a top rated hunting destination. However our greatest joy of this venture has been the many friends we have made over the years.

A "BUCK knife" incident
The TTT ranch in North Western North Dakota is a secluded place which only has a small number of select Hunters each fall. In the fall of 2010 a group of five came to spend a few days. A father, retired from a large corporation, his three sons, along with a good friend of the family.
The friend had grown up in South America as his father was the head of a very big U.S. corporation which had a large presence in South America. He was educated back in the United States, then went back to South America and ended up being the top man at the largest food processing/wholesaler in all of South America, which involved extensive business travel to all corners and countries there.
One evening, after we’d had a Big Rib-eye Steak dinner he started telling us that in Argentina when you go out to eat you always use your own knife, you never use the knife which is provided by the restaurant or host, but you use your own knife. Then he told about “his original BUCK knife”, which he had carried for years and greatly admired, then, about nine years it had just disappeared. At this time, he started telling of this whole incident with great passion. He said that he wasn’t sure if the kids had taken it, or if he’d left it somewhere, or what! It was just gone. With the intensity that he told the story, it was easy to see that his “BUCK knife” had meant a lot to him, and not only the “BUCK knife” but the memories he had of using it definitely meant a great deal to him.
Here comes the good part! While listening to him share his experience, and his love for his “BUCK knife” with such passion and sadly regretting his loss of an old friend, I excused myself, stepped around the corner in our office, looked in the place that I keep my “old BUCK knife”, which I carry without the black leather sheath, during Deer Season, so the sheath is new looking, and the old “BUCK knife” is in excellent shape.
I came back into the room, stood beside him and said that I have something that I would like to give him. “Is this something like the BUCK knife you lost? It’s yours”. Joyce, my wife was sitting where she could see the whole thing said that the look on his face was amazing, and that he had tears in his eyes, an old friend of his was back, his “BUCK knife”! The next morning when our good friend came in for breakfast the first thing he said was, “I slept with my ‘BUCK knife’” under my pillow last night!!
When we were out in Reno at the SCI show, January 2011, we met Mr. C. J. Buck, who engraved right on the blade of a new BUCK knife a special greeting, and we’re going to give this “BUCK knife” to our good friend who spent all of those years in South America and told of the “knife custom” in Argentina!
C. J. asked us to share this story with the folks at BUCK KNIVES, and this is just the way it happened.

From the mail bag
Dear Fred and Joyce:
What an unbelievable surprise!!!. Yesterday, I recieved a little box, unexpectadly from the “TTT Ranch”. When I opened it and read the letter, I must say, tears came to my eyes. The fact that you met up with C.J. Buck, told him the story, and then his response, it’s almost too good to be true, but it was true. There is no doubt in my mind that this was ordained to happen and it will always be a highlight in my memories.
I can’t thank you enough, nor tell you how much it means to me. In September I will bring your knife that you loaned me back to you so you also can have a rememberance of the “story”. By the way, we have a grandaughter of “Belle”, who is six months old now and an integral part of the family. In four months she starts her hunt training and we will find out if the DNA came down through the blood. Saludos and many, many thanks!
- Gordon
Thank you again for the hospitality, great food, lodging & company. Even for Lou it is like coming home. You both have amazing energy. Look forward to seeing you again in December.
- Dave, Lou & Scott (Alaska)
I am just taking a moment to again thank you for the wonderful time I had at your ranch. I only dreamed about the number of Pheasants that there is on your land. Everything is first rate, accomadations, food, guides, dogs and yourselves. Feel free to give my telephone number to any hunter wavering about coming to your ranch. Bob is already talking about coming back next fall. He believes nobody could have more birds available than you do.
- Richard Robinson, Harvey’s Lake, PA
Fred, Joyce & all the guys, thanks again for a great hunt and hospitality that can’t be matched. Dean had a great time after not getting to hunt for many years. I hope he can return again. Have a great hunting season. I hope to see you again soon.
- Dr. Mark Hildahl, Minot, ND
Thank you agin for a wonderful time at the TTT. This was the best trip yet from my perspective. The hunting, dogs, guides and compnay were all great and I was shooting better than usual (not saying much). As usual Joyce’s cooking was fantastic and something that I won’t soon forget.
- Randall Laco, Potomac, MD
WOW! Last year you sent me a book, this year you made me one. You never cease to amaze me. Thank you so much for this great memento of our trip. I really enjoyed the trip this year. I think it was the best hunt ever, even with the rain. We had a great guides and dogs; plus an excellent group of hunters. We saw lots of birds and I shot pretty well. I’m really looking forward to returning next year.

- Col. Eldon Woodie, Minot Air Force Base
I’m a big fan of TTT ranch (as well as Joyce’s cooking). You make your guests feel at home. As much as I like the hunt, I also find myself in awe of the North Dakota landscape, especially late in the afternoon with the sun casting long shadows and the dogs working the fields in the distance. It’s a time to relax and be thankful for wide open spaces and good friends.
- Bruce Petrie, Jr, Cincinnati, OH
It took me this long to respond because it took me this long to come back to reality. Thank both of you for just a small part of an indescribable experience. Hunting was just a small part of our trip. Thanks!
- Mike Rhodes, Milwaukee, WI
I just wanted to send you a note of thanks for a great week of hunting and relaxation at your ranch. Unfortuneately, I am back at work today…but I am pleasantly distracted by my vivid memories of the ND hills and coulees. I sincerely apprciate your superb hospitality, great cooking and all of the other five-star efforts that you both took to make my trip to the ranch so enjoyable. I can’t begin to say enough great things about the TTT ranch experience.

Our “Laco Gang” had another wonderful time with you. This is certainly a highlight event for me. It’s always fun to work with the variety of breeds you and your guides bring to the Triple T. Thank you again for your unique hospitality.
- Nicholas Evans, Vero Beach, FL
The short time I spent at the T T T ranch surrounded by the beauty of the country and in your company allowed me to once again gain a perspective on what is important in life. I can not thank you enough. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to spend quality time with one of the nicest couples I have ever met and in a place that truly is one of God’s masterpieces.
- Lou McCloskey, Newark, DE

Thanks for allowing me to share quality time with my son in a very hospitable and beautiful environment. As usual the the food was succulent. The hunt and the dogs were great and the ranch is more than comfortable.
The T T T ranch should be mandatory hunt for all Americans to experience the hospitality.
May you both enjoy health and happiness in the future. Fred, your laugh is infectious.
- Nayfe Jabara, WI & FL
I want to thank you for having J.C. and myself hunt at your wonderful ranch. I cannot put in words the enjoyment I had, everything was just perfect from Joyce’s great cooking, to the great hunting and both of your outstanding personalitys. You should never have an unhappy visitor. Just continue what you are doing.
- Ed Brennan, Knoxville, TN
Thank you so much for allwoing the “Wild Bunch” to enjoy the T T T ranch. It was a great trip and made all the more enjoyable by your company and hospitality.
- Desmond Wilson, McLean, VA
As I reflect on the joy and success we had shooting pheasants and the BULL, I equate it to sending flowers to a pretty lady, what a pleasure it is for the receiptant and the sender. Looking forward to hunting with you next year.
- Nayfe Jabara, North Palm Beach, FL
Thanks to the two of you and yur entire staff for the wonderful experience our group had at the TTT ranch. You are the perfect host and hostess and went well beyond the call of duty to insure our stay at the TTT was most memorable. From the hospitality to the first class accommodations to the bird shooting everything was simply first class.
- Paul Beck, Vice President Procter & Gamble
Thanks for a wonderful stay. We felt to be guests at a truly wonderful Ranch!
- Keith Gertsen, New Canaan, CT & Dr. Kenneth Gertsen, Glen Arm, MD
My Dad and I agree that our trip to your ranch was one we’ll never forget. The TTT ranch is really special–lots of birds (of course) and scencic country with many different types of terrain. Thank you for your hospitality and first class accommodations. Everything was well planned with no detail over looked. We had the best of both worlds–a well organized hunt, but plenty of flexibility to satisfy the interests of every member of our group.
- Kirk Jabara, Boyne City, MI
Thank you very much for your hospitality. The hunting, accomodations, geograpy and dining exceed my expectations. Thanks again for the opportunity to experience the TTT.
- Billy Richards, Waxhaw, ND
Great hunt, great birds, friends, guides & dogs! Ol’ Blue would have loved it!
- George Pretty, Fort Mill, SC
Ben and I sure enjoyed hunting at the T T T ranch in October. The hunting, hospitality, accommodations and of course the food, all made for an exceptional time.
You have a great deal to take pride in with what you offer.
- Bruce C. Gottwald, Jr, Richmond, Virginia
We all had a great time!
There is so much to like about the Triple T. the birds were plentiful and challenging. We found and bagged plenty. The accomodations were great. The dog-handlers were very pleasant and their dogs kept us in birds and retrieved birds we would have never found without them. The scenery is very different from east Tennessee but every bit as breathtaking. Best of all…you are perfect host and hostess. The food was delicious and pie with every meal!
The T T T is a fabulous place to get away from life’s demands.
- Mike Bailey, Bailey Insurance Service, Knoxville, TN
I wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed our Pheasant hunt at the T T T ranch. The scenery is spectacular only to be outdone by the pheasant hunt itself. The hunt exceeded our greatest expectations.
- Claude Sem, President/CEO
Farm Credit Services of North Dakota
You need five ingredients to grow big bucks. Plenty of good food, access to water, lots of heavy cover, the right genetics and limited hunting pressure. You have this recipe down pat. Excellent buck-to-doe ratio and a balanced buck herd means that the odds of taking a mature buck are very good.
There are lot’s of places where you can hunt during the rut and expect to lay eyes on a real bruiser of a buck, but there are darn few places where you can hunt anytime during a four month long season and expect to do so. The T T T ranch is one such place.
- Gary Clancy, Outdoor Writer and Whitetail Expert
I wanted to tell you what a great time we had hunting at the T T T ranch. As you know, we limited out on Sharptail Grouse everyday, shot several Hungarian Partridge and the Pheasant hunting is no less than spectacular.
Great hunting, wonderful people and fantastic food on the most beautiful ranch in the Midwest means a hunting experience that can’t get any better!
- John Turner, Turner Investments, Kerrville, TX
North Dakota and the T T T ranch may be the best kept secret for Wild Wings.
- Ron Schara on “Backroads with Ron & Raven”
I’d say this is the best Pheasant hunting, I’ve ever had. It’s just fantastic!
- Dave Osborne, Minnesota Vikings 1966-77
My father taught me how to hunt years ago when there were still wild pheasants in southern Ohio. Since then I have been on many hunts at some very nice places, but the TTT captured the wild hunt far better than any other place I’ve been, only with far more birds! The hospitality of Fred and Joyce was unbelievable. It was as if we were honored guests at an old friend’s lodge. Fred was constantly looking for ways to make this a great experience and a perfect hunt…I guess he succeeded as we have already booked another hunt for next year.
- Randall Laco, MD
As a Board of Director for the Pheasants Forever National Organization, I have had the opportunity to hunt pheasants in Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska and now North Dakota. Your ranch provided as good a hunt as anywhere I have hunted. Your birds were plentiful and wild. The experience was great and will be remembered for the rest of my life (or until I can make it back for another hunt).
- Bruce D. Hertzke, Board of Director for Pheasants Forever National Organization
Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality and kindness on our visit to the TTT ranch. I had such a wonderful weekend; it was truly a vacation away from the real world. The hunting was great and the special way you accommodate your guests make it more special. The home cooked meals, luxurious bunkhouse, beautiful valley setting and your personal charm add to make your place a top shelf experience. I am looking forward to next year’s trip.
- John Ghirardelli, Springfield, MO
I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for your hospitality and to appreciate the wonderful time my wife and I had at your ranch. This was one of the best vacations I’ve ever had. We were both enamored by your gracious hosting. We felt perfectly at home and the food was much better. Both of us were sort of sad when we headed back home. I am sure I will be talking of my experience for all of next year, until I get a chance to get back and try again. The hunting experience was quite simply, phenomenal. I am not an experienced hunter but Steve and Trev and their dogs Jake, Red and Bella were quite fabulous. I always felt involved and the birds were plentiful and magnificent. I wish I could say the same about my shooting. Just kidding. I revelled in the plenty of everything but time.
- Dr. Waqqas Khan, Great Forks, ND
It was our pleasure to pheasant hunt at the TTT Ranch. Our drive home was reminiscent of the fun and action on your beautiful ranch, a hunters paradise, a memory that will stay with us a long time. In the midst of the action one of the dog-handlers said, “This is the Pearl of North Dakota”. We totally agree. My husband, being an avid hunter, could not believe the terrific outcome of the event. He has been on many hunts and by far found this to be the best. We really found a wonder of America when we visited your place. Thank you both for the great experience. We are already planning a return visit next year.
- David & Jennifer Abram, Greenwich, OH
Roy and I both felt that the trip was most enjoyable and possibly the finest we’ve ever had. Your hospitality was splendid and I really got the feeling that you were interested in making it a nice experience for us. You were most successful in that. You have a unique ambience in your beautiful valley, which is probably the finest features of hunting there.
- Dr. Michael S. Clarke, Springfield, MO
Though we have been to the TTT many times, it never fails to inspire us with its majestic beauty and exciting hunting. We can’t wait to get back and enjoy it all over again.
- Dean Nelson, Great Falls, MT
When Fred told me that for the money you spend you own the TTT Ranch for three days. I was somewhat skeptical. How wrong I was! For three funfilled days I was treated as an owner. Oh, did I say anything about the hunting? Fabulous!! Great!! The only thing better than the hunting was the shooting. The only thing better than that was watching the dogs work. Oh, did I mention the food? Wow! Fred and Joyce, Thanks for a great time. We will certainly be out again soon. Oh, did I mention the scenery? Just plain WOW!
- Gaylord Wooge, Forest City, IA
My sons and I had a tremendous time hunting at the TTT. But that was just the start of a wonderful time. The scenery, food and hospitality were terrific. In addition, the pleasure of fishing Lake Sakakawea added to the complete package. We look forward to returning to the Outback of America.
- Laurence A. Schiffer, St. Louis, MO
Fred, I gotta tell you, what more can a man ask for?… A beautiful part of the country, wild game, a fabulous ranch and an adorable woman by your side (who, by the way, can make a man who hates pie eat pie). Thanks again from me and Dale.
- Jim Talbot & Dale Brown, Former Basketball Coach of LSU, Baton Rouge, LA
Just a note of thanks for your wonderful hospitality on our recent hunting visit to the TTT Ranch. We were highly impressed with both the beautiful country and the abundant game, both birds and deer. We will always remember the valley of the Little Knife River. Frankly , I would never have believed the released pheasants could acclimate to the wild as they do on your ranch. I have had the opportunity to hunt wild birds in numerous areas, and in my opinion, the pheasants on the TTT could teach those critters a few lessons in survival. Were it not for the help of your dog handlers and finely tuned dogs, I fear we would have been over matched by those crafty ringnecks. I can’t say enough about the accommodations, and the effort you both put into creating a “home away from home” atmosphere surely was apparent.
- Jerry Pabst, Amboy, IL
I don’t know how to thank you for making the hunt for my Dad such a great one. We talk about it all the time. It will forever be a great memory for me. I would also like to let you know that all 7 guys do nothing but talk about this trip when we get together. It was a great experience for all of us. I have been on many hunts, some guided and some not, but none have compared to the TTT Ranch. I really didn’t know what to expect, but from the time we drove in the driveway to the time we drove out, we were taken care of like kings. Fred, I can’t say enough about how you manage your ranch. The game that abounds on the TTT is incredible. I could go on all day, but to say the least the TTT Ranch was without question the #1 hunt of my life.
- Bart Schultz, Green Bay, WI
Thank you for the wonderful hospitality and great hunting during our hunt at the TTT Ranch. Criticism! None. Outside of we had so much fun we did not want to leave. The food was outstanding, and accommodation in the “bunkhouse” is “Five Star”. The hunting was superb, and to be honest I was concerned there would be some released birds, a fact that you made clear from the beginning. Well the birds were wild, giving my Springer “Brooks” a good workout. No easy ones. No disappointment. With the type of habitat you have on the ranch and management program planned I can hardly wait to come next year because it can only get better.
- Bob Merkley, Calgary, Alberta
Thank you again for making our hunting trip all Aric and I hoped it would be. The number of birds shot and the great shots he made has increased since we got back. I’m sure his school buddies will get tired of hearing his stories. Aric is already making plans for next year.
- Dick Burton, Albuqueque, NM
