2007 Mid-Winter News

Time seems to go by too fast. We just finished with the fall hunting season and now spring is just around the corner.

We are in the midst of another beautiful winter. Today, as we write, we are having one of those “white-out” days. The kind that makes you want to stay inside snuggled in your most favorite comfortable chair, an interesting book and a hot cup of Starbucks coffee. Let’s see how far is it to Starbucks?

In January we went, for the first time, to check out the Safari Club Show in Reno. We thought “we should go there at least once in our lifetime” and NOW we are already planning for next year. It was fun after looking at 1000’s of unfamiliar faces to spot familiar ones in the crowd. It was an added excitement to visit with some who had been hunting guests at the TTT. We had a great time visiting with hunters bound for Africa, Turkey, Russia, Canada or wherever their hearts desire is to hunt. We of course thought their hearts desire should be to hunt at the TTT.

Reno, all the glitz and lights and noise was quite a change from our humble abode in the “Outback of America”. Life in our corner of the world, The Little Knife River Valley, seems pretty quite and peaceful.

Since Reno, life has been going on a steady pace. and our thoughts are turning toward plans for the 2007 hunting season. Winter has been fairly mild (until today), with just the right amount of snow & cold. The Pheasants and deer and coyotes seem to be enjoying it as much as we are.

Happy Hunting,

2006 Mid-Winter News

We got so busy we neglected to do something very important, that is write to thank all of you who visted our web-site and hunted at the T T T ranch this past year. Many of you wrote letters, and we enjoyed and apprciated each and every one of them. Thank you so much! You are the greatest!

Those of you that were here know that we had finished (almost in time for the start of hunting season) the “Gun Rack”. It really turned out better than we expected and appreciate your input for improvements and additions. The process of building took more of our time and energy than we wanted, but we now feel it was worth the effort. Our biggest dilemma was agreeing about the little details that probably weren’t that important anyway!

All in all-the 2005 hunting season was fun and rewarding. We are looking forward to another successful season this year, 2006. So far we’ve had a very mild winter which is nice to help the birds and deer survive. They certainly have plenty to eat to help them get through the winter (we feel that we’ve had a bit too much “plenty to eat” overselves).

If you are interested in a hunt please contact us before long so you can get the dates that fit in best with your schedule.

2005 Mid-Winter News

Happy New Year or should it be Happy Ground Hog’s Day? It’s a bit too late for Happy New Year and a little early for Ground Hog’s Day, either way we want to wish you the very best for 2005!

We are looking forward to what 2005 has in store for us. It has been a rough month for many in our world and we are so thankful that we are healthy and content in our Little Knife River Valley in the “Outback of America”. We hope that you are healthy and content in your part of the world!

Time seems to go by too fast. We can’t belive that we haven’t written a Newsletter since the Spring of 2004! Where does the time go?

Looking back–2004 was a great year. We were busy from the start of hunting season to the middle of December when our last guests were here. I think that everyone that came to the T T T ranch had an enjoyable time; at least we tried to make it that way. We have found that is easy to do when we have wonderful groups of people to work with like we do, and they certainly help us to try live up to our motto “Perfection is our goal, Excellence is our Standard”.

We look forward to using the “Gun Rack”, we are in the process of building. We started on it early in the fall, but ordered a door which we waited and waited for and while we waited “our” carpenter left to do other work and has not been back since. But we are happy to report the electrician finished his work (at any rate we paid his bill) and the plumber came today to check out what he needs to do. The “Gun Rack” will have two (2) bedrooms on the lower floor and one (1) or two (2) in the loft. The front part will be the gathering place with a gun cleaning table and gun rack. We appreciate the great ideas we’ve had from many of you.

Some of you have asked if the “Gun Rack” is going to change the T T T as far as the number of guests. The answer is “No”. We will be the same. If there are four (4) or more we sell you the ranch for your hunt, you will be the only party here.

In case you haven’t looked at our web-site lately we want to let you know that we updated the pictures (still have more work to do on it). Our problems is—we have so many pictures of our favorite people that we hate to take pictures off to make room for new pictures! We have a new photo gallery for the Arhcery pictures, which gives us room for more pictures. Someone called and said that they didn’t see their picture in our photo gallery! Oh Dear–we will try to do better!

Enjoy winter, it will be gone before we know it,

Spring 2004 Hunting News

Spring is in the air. Winter is past, the snow is almost gone, the trees are budding, the birds are singing and the flowers will soon be appearing again on the hills & prairies. Isn’t spring a wonderful time of the year?

It was a long snowy winter! We had more snow than we have had for many years, even our roads were blocked off and on. To our amazement it has melted so slow that there was absolutely no run-off. We now have to start hoping and praying for rain.

Fred faithfully fed the deer (about 300-400), the sharptail (200-300) and the pheasants (about 100). Now that the snow is mostly gone all the wildlife that were around for a free handout have scattered. So is life! We’re sure that the mama’s are doing what they should to insure a bountiful harvest. It will be interesting to see what does happen. We are hoping that the Sharptail will remember the feed and relocate in the valley or at least not too far off.

Have a great summer, Hunting season will be here before we know it.

Early Winter 2003 Hunting News

We want to let you know that we have updated the pictures on our web-site in both the ‘Photo Gallery’ and ‘Hunt Photos’. Please check them out–your picture just may be there! We also added a few new “Love Me” letters to ‘Read our Mail’. We will be continuing to add new pictures and letters, so be be sure to look at them now and then.

We had a full season and it’s still going on with a Buffalo hunt this coming week, Whitetail Archery & more Pheasant Hunts. It was a fantastic time and our guests were some of the most beautiful people in the world! We had a great time taking care of them and all the details while they hunted, relaxed and enjoyed the great outdoors at the T T T ranch in the “Outback of America”.

It’s hard to believe that just a few weeks ago it was sweltering hot and now it is bitterly cold. For those who enjoy winter hunts we have a good supply of Pheasants. With the snow and cold the Pheasants (and deer) are bunching up and as Fred says “they are not relishing the thought of facing another North Dakota winter”. To help them out of their predicament we have taken out the snowshoes and ordered the temperature to warm up a bit for the hunters that are coming.

We are pleased with our new venture at the Diamond W (Fred’s parents old ranch house). We had several Whitetail Archery hunters that stayed there for a semi-guided hunt and they were more than pleased with the facilities and hunt.

Enjoy the Winter and the upcoming Holidays!

Summer 2003 Hunting News

We’ve told some of you that Fred inherited the part of his parents’ ranch that has their OLD house and we were thinking about “fixing” it up for Archery Hunters who like to “fend” for themselves. Well—we did it!

We started this project in late spring. After about two weeks our carpenter had “woman“ problems and ended up in an alcohol treatment center. We, of course, thinking highly of our ability to get things done thought we could certainly finish it in not more than three (3) days. Were we ever living in a dream world! It was a lot more work and time consuming than we thought it would be! Once we did one thing, we had to do another and on & on. But now it is completed (not quite).

Fred’s parents brand was Diamond W, so we decided to call it that instead of “the Old Place”, “Dad’s” or “the folks”. It is about 4 miles down the valley from the T T T and about 2 miles over the hills and through the coulees. Please check our web-site (TTTranch.com) in the photo gallery to see what the Diamond W and the countryside look like.

While we were working at the Diamond W spring came and went, The Mama Pheasants laid eggs, they hatched and the babies grew. Now the countryside is a stunning green with a faint tinge of brown telling us that summer is drawing to a close and harvest is near. WOW! If harvest is near—so is Hunting!

That’s the News from the TTT ranch in the Outback of America where “the Country is”, as Meriwether Lewis wrote in his journal on May 5, 1805, “as yesterday, beautiful in the extreme”, where the Hunting is Superb and where there is Pie at every Meal (well–almost!)

We are looking forward to seeing you again!

Early Spring 2003 Hunting News

Greetings from the “Outback of America”

It’s April 1st and our March Hunts are over. We had pulled out the snowshoes thinking we would need them, but instead the sun and warm weather came and melted most of the snow. Now, with all the runoff, the creek is flowing full force. Altho it is Spring—and—April the forecast for the next few days is snow to be measured in feet, not inches. We better keep those snowshoes handy.

The Pheasants have wintered well and were wily and evasive during the hunts. The corn on top of the big bales along the creek and in the coulees evidently gave them plenty of energy, in fact, so much that they were more than just a “little wily”. The Mama Pheasants should be in excellent shape to lay a nest full of eggs and take care of their babies.

We have heard from some of you that your sons are off fighting the war in Iraq. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and hope they along with all the troops will be returning home soon.

We received news yesterday that one of our Guests had died along with two of his friends in the crash of a private jet he was piloting. He was founder of a large corporation and loved to fly from the time he was a young lad. In the news clip we received it said “we can take comfort in the knowledge that he now flies with a new freedon, in a new sky, with a new set of wings.”

When something like this happens it makes us realize again how precious and fragile life is.

We hope you have a great Spring & Summer and that we will see you during Hunting Season this fall.
- Fred & Joyce

TTT ranch in the ‘Shooting Sportsman’ Magazine

In our last Newsletter we told you we would let you know when Roger Pinckney’s article about the T T T was going to be published.

PLEASE take the opportunity to read “In the Valley of the Little Knife” in the Mar/Apr issue of Shooting Sportsman Magazine. We thought it was very well written!

Early Winter 2002 Hunting News

Merry Christmas from the “Outback of America”

What a fall of Hunting Action, starting off with a Labor Day weekend hunt–4 hunters, 3 days and 80 Pheasants! Whitetail Archery has been exciting with the Cabela hunt and Gary Clancy in early September, on through the fall, and now with four “great” hunters from Green Bay. Monday they are off to harvest one or two BIG cantankerous Buffalo Bulls. If they get one we will put the picture on our web-site.

Our hunting season has been a success. The weather was exceptional which makes for abundant cover, the birds learned their survival skills well and the dogs had many compliments for their great retrieves. However, the best of all are the Hunters! It is a pleasure getting to know people that enjoy the outdoors, the scenery and the solitude of the T T T ranch in the Little Knife River Valley. It is fun and enjoyable; we certainly appreciate you choosing the T T T experience for your hunting pleasure.

It was a delight to have Roger Pinckney and Miss Susan on assignment from ’Shooting Sportsman’ at the T T T. We will let you know what issue that story will be in. We plan to update our “love me letters”, maybe in January (or as soon as we take time to figure out how to do it), so check out our web-site now and then.

The Pheasants are breathing a little easier knowing the main pressure is off. Now all they have to do is dodge coyotes, not the hunters or Bela or Jake or Red or any of the other dogs. Hopefully they are hiding from the hawks and owls and the feed on top of the big round bales will give them extra energy to withstand the cold, wind and blizzards plus help them get ready for springs loving/ nesting/and little chicks.

We will be in the Minneapolis area January 10-12 at the National Pheasant Fest & Convention helping with the North Dakota Tourism booth. If you are from that area, stop in to visit with us.

Happy Hunting and the best to you all in 2003!
- Fred & Joyce

Autumn 2002 Hunting News

Greetings from the “Outback of America”

Our season has started out with a bang. First to arrive in the midst of all the confusion of harvest were four sharpshooters from Oregon. Sharpshooters? Wouldn’t you say to bag 80 Pheasants in three days they would have to be sharpshooters?

They were barely out the door when Gary Clancy, Outdoor Writer, Author of several hunting and fishing books and White-tailed hunting expert arrived and not far behind was Darren, a computer whiz from the Cabela’s Office. They were here for an early season Whitetail Archery Hunt. Morning and evening they sat and endured the mosquitoes while they waited for the perfect Buck to come. Darren’s came and he was elated that it was in the velvet. Gary’s perfect Buck showed up and left. Clancy told us, “You need five ingredients to grow big bucks. Plenty of food, access to water, lots of heavy cover, the right genetics and limited hunting pressure. You have this recipe down pat.”

If these last two weeks are any indication of what the rest of the season will be like, we know it will be an enjoyable one.

We have been blessed! There is a drought around us, but we have had plenty of rain. The cover is heavy–we know there are Pheasants out there; we hear them, but it’s takes some hunting to find them. We’ve seen some beautiful Bucks and have taken a few pictures of them.

It was exciting to be featured on the North American Hunter on ESPN2. We have a couple other things coming up and we’ll let you know when they are about to happen.

Be sure to look in our Hunt Gallery on our web-site at the the pictures of the Sharpshooters, Gary Clancy and Darren.

Happy Hunting!

Late Spring 2002 Hunting News

Greetings from the “Outback of America”

We are still waiting for some nice warm Spring weather, in fact we have gotten to the point where we are looking forward to some “Global Warming”. We are wondering where it is when we need/want it? We had snow the first week in May and then again a couple nights ago. Hopefully, Mama Pheasant is keeping her eggs warm.

We have a “pet” Pheasant that wakes us every morning with its crowing. It gets on our porch several times a day to crow and flap its wings. Reminds us of “Jane Doe” (our pet deer we had several years ago) protecting our doorway so neither man nor beast or friend or foe can enter through the door! It chases the other pheasants away and we don’t know if it is friendless because of its ill disposition or its superior attitude! Maybe it thinks they should be out doing their duty protecting the Mama’s from the wily coyotes and other predators. It’s pretty fun and amusing!

The Deer wintered well with plenty of goodies to keep their stomachs full—which in the does makes for healthy babies, but in the bucks–BIG ANTLERS–this fall!

We are looking forward to seeing many of you again this fall. Others of you have contacted us about hunting this fall. We still have openings, so if you are thinking of a place to go–contact us again at the TTT ranch, hunting@TTTranch.com or 701-628-2418. We will take good care of you! Our Motto is “Perfection is our Goal, Excellence is our Standard.”

We are going to be enjoying summer, but we are already looking forward to and preparing for another great hunting season this fall.

Have a Safe and Happy Memorial Day!

Spring 2002 Hunting News

Greetings from the “Outback of America”

Our winter was fairly mild(?) until March. Look at our “Hunt Photo” to see pictures of Hunters having fun(?) while going after the wily Pheasants on cold, snowy March days. One group, two sons and their Dad, came all the way from Houston, Texas to enjoy Pheasant hunting and each other at the TTT ranch. That is about the time our “winter” began.

We told you in our last letter that we now have the capabilities to put pictures on our web-site. We were excited, but to do that we needed to get a digital camera. When we got the digital camera we worked and worked to get it in installed only to find out it didn’t work with our “old” computer and our “old” printer, so of course we had to get a new computer and new printer! After that we struggled to get the camera, the computer and the printer all working together. That is why we want you to look at the new pictures in “Hunt Photo”. We feel rather proud of having conquered what appeared at one time to be unconquerable.

The Pheasants have survived and we know that before long spring will be here. Spring? Spring?!? It is here now! You would think since spring is here that the snow would be gone and the grass would be starting to turn green, but all we have seen for the last few weeks is snow and more snow. Actually, we are enjoying the snow knowing that it will be gone soon, in fact it is suppose to be in the 40’s by the end of this week.

We are looking forward to seeing some of you again this year. If you are thinking of booking a hunt at the TTT ranch it would be wise to book early so you will get the dates you want.

Happy Easter!

2002 Winter Hunting News

Greetings from the “Outback of America”

Another year! This past year was another opportunity to meet some of the nicest people in world! Right now is another chance to say Thank You to those who came to the TTT ranch for a hunting adventure! We enjoyed and appreciated everyone of you, and we look forward to seeing many of you again this coming fall. It was another year of excellent hunting and exciting experiences. It is another year to remember with thanksgiving!

We want to let you know about a few changes. In our last letter we told you Cabela’s contacted us asking if we would be willing for them to endorse us. We are now the only “Cabela’s Certified Wingshooting Outfitter” in North Dakota. Because of that we have added a 4 day/5 night combination Pheasant and Whitetail Archery hunt package and changed our rates a little bit. We hope it will be good for all of us.

We also now have the capability to add pictures to our web-site (TTTranch.com). We recently added a bunch, so why don’t you check it out to see if your picture is there. This coming fall we will be able to put your picture on the web while you are still here! We also will be adding your testimonial letters to our “Read our Mail” before long.

A couple of other things of interest: This past fall one group of hunters were interested in learning more about the Corp Of Discovery. We had a “Native American Cultural Experience” with an Indian lady telling about Sakakawea and her time with Lewis & Clark from an Indian’s perspective, plus we had Indian Tacos made and served by an American Indian. It was an excellent way to spend an evening after a hard day chasing & trying to shoot those wily Pheasants.——–The second thing: World famous shooting instructor & trick shot extraordinarie, John Satterwhite, would love to come to the TTT ranch and personally tutor guests individually along with putting on a “shooting exhibition”. If you are interested in either of these please let us know and we’ll try to work out the details.

Happy Hunting!
